Swim with humpback whales in Tonga during their breeding season. This is one of the few places on Earth where you can legally swim with whales—mothers with calves, singing males, and heat runs. Small groups of six travelers. Five full days on the water.
Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Tonga!
Arrive in Vava'u and settle into your island accommodation. Meet the group and your whale guides. Evening briefing on whale behavior, safety protocols, and what to expect in the water.
Day 2-6: Five full days swimming with humpback whales
Every morning we head out to find the whales — mothers with calves, curious juveniles, singing males. When we locate a pod, we slip in quietly for surface observation. Every encounter is different.
Day 3: Photography & video workshops (ongoing)
Between whale sessions we run hands-on underwater photography and video workshops, so you go home with skills and truly amazing footage of your encounters.
Day 6: Cultural day around the island
A day around the Tongan island: epic caves, a local school and village visit — a calm, meaningful break from the water with local voices and traditions.
Day 7: Farewell
One last morning on the water if conditions allow, then we close the expedition with a farewell BBQ dinner before your flight out.

I don't usually travel with strangers. But after the first day it genuinely felt like I'd known these people for years. The humpbacks were beyond anything I expected — and I'm already signed up for the next one

I came for the whales. What I didn't expect was leaving with a group of people I'm still in contact with every week. The whole thing was carefully put together without ever feeling rigid. Honestly one of the best decisions I've made this year.
